HD Radio is Coming to America with the TEAC HD-1

TEAC America, Inc. has introduced its first HD Radio product: the TEAC HD-1. According to a press release of the company, the TEAC HD-1 features iTunes Tagging capability and is available at select Costco stores nationwide.

Across USA there are nearly 2,000 HD Radio stations currently on the air, plus more than 1,000 new FM HD2/HD3 channels. The next time the iPod is synced to iTunes, the tagged songs will automatically appear as a “Tagged playlist” of selected songs that can be previewed, purchased and downloaded.

According to the release, HD Radio technology enables the TEAC HD-1 to offer new FM channels, crystal-clear digital sound and on-screen artist/title information – all free.

Randy Madey, National Sales Manager, TEAC America, Inc. said “With digital radio reaching critical mass across America, TEAC is excited to unveil the HD-1, our introductory HD Radio product. In keeping with our heritage of offering consumers high-quality, high-performance products and stylish design, the decision to include HD Radio technology’s advanced digital entertainment is a natural one.”

This table top iPod docking system, equipped with HD Radio technology, delivers a superior audio experience and compelling new content via HD Radio programming. The TEAC HD-1 also features iTunes Tagging capability and is available at select Costco stores nationwide, Randy Madey added.

“The affordable HD-1 will be sold at Costco and is a great value proposition for consumers in this economy. The HD Radio receiver will deliver premium sound with an iPod dock and a seamless music buying experience via iTunes Tagging.” HD Radio technology enables the TEAC HD-1 to offer new FM channels, crystal-clear digital sound and on-screen artist/title information – all free.

The TEAC HD-1 would be available at a price tag of $129.99. It plays and charges iPhones and all iPods, including the iPod touch. The HD-1 also comes with a headphone jack and video and audio outputs.
